We started off today moving into our last unit before we start reviewing for the EOGs. For the next couple of weeks we will be working on ENERGY and learning about alternative energy resources. We started by reading about renewable and nonrenewable resources and answering some text based questions (see below for a copy of today's assignment).

Well everyone, we are finally finishing up with the Earth Systems Unit. There are just a few groups that need to finish their project we started last week then we can watch the final project (hopefully I get my projector back from being fixed soon!!).
Today students took their 7th benchmark test of the year to finish out the unit. Tomorrow we will be starting our last unit on Energy so stay tuned for more info on that. Monday student's received a new set of vocab words to go along with our last unit on energy. See below for those words. Have a wonderful night and see you tomorrow! VOCAB DUE MONDAY (5/4/15) energy solar energy wind energy wind turbine hydroelectric geothermal biomass nuclear energy ethanol New Bern is getting a new Mayor....well at least for the sake of our project anyways. Today, students were placed into groups of 3 or 4 and were given the task of being campaign managers for different candidates running for Mayor of New Bern. They are tasked with creating a 30 second commercial endorsing their candidate and explaining why the Clean Water Act should or should not be enforced. Students will have the rest of the week to work on this in class. Students will present their commercials to the class on Monday and continue on Tuesday after the benchmark test if necessary.

Today, students were required to read a text about point-source and non-point-source pollution. There were 6 questions at the end of the article they were required to answer that included items such as summarizing, citing text, and creating Venn Diagrams. They were required to read 4 chapters and take notes on each chapter then answer the questions at the end of each chapter. Today we are working on finishing up the water quality stations we started on Wednesday. Don't forget to get your vocab done by Monday and study those words for the quiz.

We kicked off class today watching a video called Jay-Z Water for Life which is about rapper Jay-Z's travels to Africa and his help with the global water crisis. We then moved into our stations activities (see below for links to these documents). I know it is always hard to get back into the swing of things, but alas we must. It is all down hill from here as we begin to prepare for the upcoming EOGs! Today we jumped right in to our 3rd section of the Earth Systems Unit (8.E.1.3). Students had to find information on water quality and the properties of water quality. In order to supplement students' knowledge of oceans, today we started a station activity where students traveled to 8 different stations reading and exploring different interactives. The stations included information about:
1. Deep Ocean Exploration 2. Marine Life Forms 3. Ocean/Marine Food Webs 4. Oceans as a Living Resource 5-8.
