Well, what a weird and crazy week it has been! No school Monday, short day on Tuesday, field trip on Wednesday, I was absent Thursday and a half day Friday. With all of these shortened classes we haven't had much time to get many new things completed. We are continuing to work on our INFOGRAPH PROJECT we started on Friday of last week. My hopes is that we will finish that project up on Friday or Monday.
There was no new vocabulary this week, so we will not have a quiz tomorrow. We will pick up with some new vocab next week. Enjoy the half day tomorrow and have a great weekend! Happy Friday everyone! Students received a study guide today for the 8th and final Benchmark Assessment on Energy. This study guide is due on Monday and the benchmark test will be taken on Tuesday. See below for a copy of this study guide.
We also started a project on Energy Resources. Each student was given a type of energy resource to research individually. You can find resources for each type of energy at THIS website. Next week, we will take the information students found on their own and work in groups to create a final product....more to come on the group part later. See below for the questions students had to answer for their assigned resource. This paper must be completed by the end of the class on Monday. Have a wonderful weekend. See you Monday. Energy Study Guide (due Monday) Energy Resource Project Question Page New Bern is getting a new Mayor....well at least for the sake of our project anyways. Today, students were placed into groups of 3 or 4 and were given the task of being campaign managers for different candidates running for Mayor of New Bern. They are tasked with creating a 30 second commercial endorsing their candidate and explaining why the Clean Water Act should or should not be enforced. Students will have the rest of the week to work on this in class. Students will present their commercials to the class on Monday and continue on Tuesday after the benchmark test if necessary.
Click HERE for the full details of the project including how it will be graded. I also passed out a study guide for the benchmark test today. This will also be due on Monday. You can find a copy of the study guide HERE. Looking ahead: Vocab words due and quiz on Monday (4/27) Commercial due Monday (4/27) Study guide due Monday (4/27) Benchmark test for Earth Systems will be on Tuesday (4/28), make sure you are studying. Today students turned in their vocab notebooks to be checked as well as took a quiz on the previous set of vocab words. We then worked on finishing our PSA poster project that we started on Friday all about GMO's. These projects will count as a TEST grade and they are due tomorrow! Be sure to finish these up tonight and bring them back. See Friday's post with more information about this project as well as the rubric for how I will be grading it.
Looking ahead, you should be preparing yourself for the next benchmark test on Friday. It will cover all of the Pathogens and Disease Unit as well as the Biotechnology Unit. Make sure you are studying all those vocab words and all of your notes in your notebooks. Friday is here!! Today we kicked off a project that will count as a test for this unit. Students were asked to complete the following ASSIGNMENT (courtesy of https://sciencewithmsbarton.wordpress.com/) on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). From that assignment students were tasked with choosing a side (for or against GMOs) and write an argumentative paragraph explaining their side. From there, students are required to create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) poster that concisely gets their opinion across to the public. See below for the rubric for this project. We will finish up the project on Monday.
