Today, students were required to complete a READING ASSIGNMENT that covered how food is converted into usable energy. The assignment focused mainly on photosynthesis and cellular respiration. After reading students had some text based questions to answer and they were also required to fill in a GRAPHIC ORGANIZER.
The week is going great so far! We are half way done! Reminders, your vocab is due Friday and today's assignment is due tomorrow if you did not finish it in class. Also, DON'T FORGET TO GET YOUR FIELD TRIP PERMISSION SLIPS SIGNED AND YOUR MONEY BROUGHT IN!

Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope everyone has been staying dry the last few days! This rainy weather is making me so sleepy these days! Fortunately, we have lots of science work to keep us busy!
Yesterday we started right in on our new unit on Molecular Biology. Students were shown a POWERPOINT PRESENTATION on human health and they had a GRAPHIC ORGANIZER to fill out and take notes on during the presentation. New vocab words were given out (see below). These are due Friday, October 2nd. Be sure to study for the quiz too! Today we worked on a literacy assignment. Students read an ARTICLE ON HEALTHY LIVING and had several questions to answer at the end. Some of these questions required them to recall what they read and some of the required them to analyze and synthesize their reading. If this assignment was not finished before the end of class then it was assigned as homework and is due tomorrow. VOCAB DUE 10/2/15 calorie digestion metabolism basal metabolic rate (BMR) lipid protein carbohydrate Hey there everyone! Today students took their quiz on photosynthesis and cellular respiration. We then transitioned into the second part of the molecular biology unit on healthy living. We kicked it off by practicing our literacy skills by reading this TEXT and answering text dependent questions in their science notebooks.
Continue to work on you vocab that is due Tuesday, and don't forget tomorrow is a half day and you have no school on Monday. Have a great day! Today, students are jumping into our new unit on Molecular Biology. We will be learning all about cells, photosynthesis, cellular respiration, and cell division. Students received their new set of vocab words today (see below for the list). These words will be due on Monday the 9th and they should be studying them because there will be a quiz on these words that day as well.
To start the unit off today, students were required to read THIS article (courtesy of https://sciencewithmsbarton.wordpress.com/) . While reading students were to write down any words they did not know and define them on a separate sheet of paper. Then they were required to answer the questions at the end of the article in their science notebooks. This unit tends to be a difficult one for students to grasp so it is imperative that you are studying at home every night in order to be successful with this unit. Hopefully we can come out on top for our next benchmark! NEW VOCAB WORDS cell membrane cell wall nucleus chloroplast mitochondria ribosome cytoplasm prokaryote eukaryote organelle mitosis meiosis Happy Monday everyone! Only one week left until the Holiday break!! This week we are starting our new unit on pathogens and disease. This topic can be very interesting to teach and learn about! I am really excited to start digging in to all of the material!
Today, students will be working on an independent reading assignment about viruses vs. bacteria while filling out a chart about their reading. See below for links to these files. We will also be watching the following VIDEO CLIP. I hope you all have a fabulous Monday! Check back this week for more posts about the assignments we are doing in class. NOTE: There will be no vocabulary words this week due to the upcoming break. We will begin with new vocab Monday, January 5th. Viruses vs. Bacteria Reading Assignment (Courtesy of: http://sciencewithmsbarton.wordpress.com/) Viruses vs. Bacteria Graphic Organizer for Reading Greetings everyone! I hope you all are enjoying the fall-like temperatures we have been having! Yesterday students received their last set of vocabulary words for our chemistry unit. See below for this list of words; they are due Monday in the correct format in their vocab notebooks. Today, we began discussing physical & chemical properties & change. We took some notes using a fill-in-the-blank graphic organizer and then we focused on literacy with a reading on physical properties and change. Students will be required to complete the questions for this reading for homework this evening. See below for a copy of this reading assignment as well as today's PPT. Happy Tuesday!!
After me being absent for a few days we are finally back into the swing of things! I always hate being out but sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do. Yesterday, students took their vocabulary quiz on atoms, elements, compounds, and mixtures. They also received their new set of vocabulary words for this week. See below for the words and details for the next quiz. Today, we dove right in to the Periodic Table of Elements (PTE). We took some notes, colored the PTE, and for homework students will be required to do some reading and answer questions. Need any of these resources? See below for the links. We will be working with the PTE for the rest of this week and part of next and then moving on to chemical and physical properties of matter. I am looking forward to seeing how well my students do with this subject! Stay tuned for information on an upcoming test on what we have learned so far! Have a great day!!!
