Behavior Policy
This year, HJM is working on the “BE BETTER” campaign. While this entails many different things, part of that campaign means that each child entering the classroom is expected to behave and perform in a positive and productive manner. To ensure that this occurs, I have set in place a discipline policy that each student will be aware of and is expected to follow.
Expectations

If You Are Absent
If you are absent YOU will be responsible for picking up your absent work. You will find absent work in the ABSENT folder on the back table or you can check Google Classroom for anything that was posted. You will have the same amount of days you were absent to complete absent work. I will not hunt you down for your work. There will be a zero in the grade book for the assignment until it is turned in.
Late Work/ Fixing a QuizAll assignments must be turned in on time. I will NOT accept late work, unless discussed beforehand. All assignments turned in must have name (no name equals a zero), date, assignment title, and class period. If the late work has been previously discussed with Mrs. Kievit, 20% will be taken off the grade you earned.
You will NOT be allowed to “fix” or “make-up” any test or quiz you take in this class. The grade you earned is the grade you keep. You will need to study in order to do well. |
Opportunity to Succeed (OTS)OTS will still be on Tuesdays from 7:45am to 8:30am. Students may not arrive any earlier than 7:45am. Students may come to OTS for tutoring, make up work/tests, etc. OTS is to be taken seriously, therefore, if a student is not behaving, he/she will be asked to leave. Students are responsible for taking an OTS permission slip home to be signed by the parent/guardian in order to attend OTS. No slip, no OTS.

CommunicationI have a class website: mrskievit.weebly.com where I post homework assignments, class info, resources, etc. If you have any questions about this class, this would be a good place to start to find the answer.
I also use the Remind App. Please sign up to receive messages from me. These will be vital messages about homework, tests, etc. This service is a great way to stay in touch with what is going on in the classroom. If you download the app, you will have the ability to send a message right to my phone if you have a question regarding homework or studying (use the code @8scihjm). I encourage both parents and students to sign up for this service. To sign up, download the app and join my class or text the message @8scihjm to the number 81010 Email is the easiest and fastest way to communicate with me, however, communication may be done by phone calls, emails, notes/letters and/or conferences, and my classroom website. Please do not hesitate to contact me. School phone: (252) 514-6450 Email: [email protected] Website: mrskievit.weebly.com |
