Happy Friday everyone! Students received a study guide today for the 8th and final Benchmark Assessment on Energy. This study guide is due on Monday and the benchmark test will be taken on Tuesday. See below for a copy of this study guide.
We also started a project on Energy Resources. Each student was given a type of energy resource to research individually. You can find resources for each type of energy at THIS website. Next week, we will take the information students found on their own and work in groups to create a final product....more to come on the group part later. See below for the questions students had to answer for their assigned resource. This paper must be completed by the end of the class on Monday. Have a wonderful weekend. See you Monday. New Bern is getting a new Mayor....well at least for the sake of our project anyways. Today, students were placed into groups of 3 or 4 and were given the task of being campaign managers for different candidates running for Mayor of New Bern. They are tasked with creating a 30 second commercial endorsing their candidate and explaining why the Clean Water Act should or should not be enforced. Students will have the rest of the week to work on this in class. Students will present their commercials to the class on Monday and continue on Tuesday after the benchmark test if necessary.
Click HERE for the full details of the project including how it will be graded. I also passed out a study guide for the benchmark test today. This will also be due on Monday. You can find a copy of the study guide HERE. Whew what a week it has been. I have been so busy I haven't been able to update lately. So let me get you caught up. Monday and Tuesday students had a substitute and they worked on their literacy skills by reading different articles about the current unit and answering questions about their reading as well as writing a summary for each article. Students were also given a new set of vocab words that are due on Monday (see below for these words). Wednesday, we watched the Planet Earth: Jungles video and students had to answer THESE questions (adapted from United Streaming) about the video. This video shows fabulous examples of a real ecosystem and the symbiotic relationships that take place within it as well as competition, coexistence, limiting factors and carrying capacity.
Thursday, we went over the STUDY GUIDE for the benchmark and classroom test. Students were able to ask any questions they had and clear up any misconceptions. Friday, students completed the 6th district benchmark assessment on Ecosystems and Monday they will be completing the classroom test for this unit as well. Keep in mind your vocab is due on Monday. Just a reminder that your vocab is due tomorrow. Be sure to get that completed! Also, the high school curriculum fair is TONIGHT!! It is important that you attend this open house to get important information about your high school classes. See you tomorrow! Today we began watching one of my all time favorite movies, Osmosis Jones! Some of my students were able to watch this movie last year in 7th grade, but this year instead of looking at it from a human body perspective, we are watching it from a pathogens and disease perspective. Students will be filling out THIS form while watching the movie. We will be using today and tomorrow's class to complete this movie.
Students were also given their BENCHMARK STUDY GUIDE today to complete for homework. This will be due on Thursday and we will be going over all of the questions so students are sure to have a good idea of what their benchmark will look like. Happy studying!! Hello to all my wonderful scientists! Today students reviewed for our test tomorrow. We played Quiz-Quiz-Trade, a game where each student gets a card with a question on it and has to get with a partner and answer each others questions. After, they trade cards and find a new partner. Students also received a study guide and had the opportunity to work on this in class but will have to be finished for homework this evening to help them study. See below for a copy of that study guide.
Be sure to get in some good studying time tonight with your notes and vocab, and get plenty of rest so you are wide awake and on you A-game tomorrow for our test on the Periodic Table and Elements, Compounds, & Mixtures!!! Have a great night and good luck studying!! PTE and Elements, Compounds, & Mixtures Study Guide |
