Phew...you know it has been busy when I am not able to update the blog. I apologize for the delay! So, lets get caught up! Here are the activities we worked on in the last week that helped us gain a better understanding of cellular respiration and photosyntheses:
STATION POSTERS STUDENT STATION PAPERS PHOTOSYNTHESIS/CELLULAR RESPIRATION: MAKING ENERGY PHOTOSYNTHESIS & RESPIRATION POSTER PROJECT We also used the online website plickers.com to review for our test that we took on Friday. Today, students are working on doing their error analysis for the questions they got wrong on the test. Tomorrow we will be getting started with our new unit on Ecosystems. There are no new vocab words for this week. Stay tuned for more updates this week.

Students were busy and engaged today while they traveled through different STATIONS ABOUT HEALTHY LIVING. In these stations they analyzed infographs, watched a BrainPop video, created a PSA poster for the anti-drug campaign, played memory match with several different vocabulary words, and read some articles on healthy living. We didn't have time to finish them all today so we will pick up where we left off tomorrow.
Don't forget to be working on those vocab words that are due Friday. Have a great day! We did it! We made it through the first week of school. All in all it has been a great week!
To finish out the week, students turned in their vocab notebooks and took their first vocab quiz. Some students may wish to make corrections on this quiz. Stay tuned to Monday's post to get directions for making corrections. After the quiz we rotated through 4 different stations learning all about pathogens. Students were expected to fill in this GRAPHIC ORGANIZER while they read this INFORMATION with a partner. Students worked really hard and did a great job! I hope you all enjoyed the first week of school as much as I did. Have a great weekend and see you next week! Hello Science students! Yesterday you received your LAST SET of vocab words for the year. We are finishing up our last unit on Energy. See below for those words. Today, we began a station activity that has students walk through several different types of energy. See below for a copy of the stations.
Make sure you are working on vocab and studying your words. Have a great night and I will see you tomorrow. Energy Resource Stations Vocab Due 5/11/15 Natural resource Renewable resource Nonrenewable resource Energy conservation Fossil fuels We kicked off class today watching a video called Jay-Z Water for Life which is about rapper Jay-Z's travels to Africa and his help with the global water crisis. We then moved into our stations activities (see below for links to these documents). There were 6 stations that covered the following topics: Station 1: Dissolved Oxygen Station 2: pH levels Station 3: Bio-indicators Station 4: Turbidity Station 5: Temperature Station 6: Discussion questions about Jay-Z Water for Life video Link to Video (you can also find this on YouTube) The following questions should be answered at station 6 in COMPLETE sentences on a separate sheet of paper and stapled to your station paper:
What is your opinion of the video? How did it make you feel? What was something new you learned from watching the video? Imagine your life if you lived in one of those villages Jay-Z toured, how would your life be different? What do YOU think can be done to help the world's water crisis? Links to today's activities: Water Quality Stations Water Quality Stations Student Sheet In order to supplement students' knowledge of oceans, today we started a station activity where students traveled to 8 different stations reading and exploring different interactives. The stations included information about:
1. Deep Ocean Exploration 2. Marine Life Forms 3. Ocean/Marine Food Webs 4. Oceans as a Living Resource 5-8. Zones of the Ocean We will continue these stations tomorrow and then we will be off for SPRING BREAK!! You can find links to all the materials for today and tomorrow's activity below. Have a WONDERFUL and RESTFUL Spring Break and I will see you back here on the 13th! I thought I left the northern weather behind when I moved here but apparently it has followed me! With these last 2 days off we have fallen a bit behind in the schedule. Today students completed STATIONS (station 4 VOCAB MATCH goes with these stations as well) about healthy living and completed the PACKET to go with it. Students also turned in their vocab words that were due. Tomorrow, students will be required to have their study guide ready to go over. We will be taking the benchmark assessment TOMORROW after we go over the study guide and the classroom test will be taken on Tuesday. Make sure you are studying for these assessments!!
High school counselors will be in our classroom on Monday to discuss students' high school schedule. Stay warm everyone! Yesterday and today students traveled through 7 different stations that enlightened them on several different aspects of Molecular Biology. See below for links to the different activities used at each station.
Please remember that your vocab is due Monday. Remember to study for the QUIZ on Monday as well. STATIONS POSTERS STUDENT STATION PAPER VIDEOS FOR STATIONS (watch the mitosis and meiosis videos and fill out the worksheet that goes with each video) Have a great weekend and see you Monday!! Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful and restful break. I went up to visit my family in Michigan and this was the first trip in 7 years that there was no snow! Oh and how about those SPARTANS?? Did anyone see that awesome football game? Michigan State had the come back of the year with that blocked field goal! I was on the edge of my seat the entire game! And for those of you Buckeyes out there, congrats on beating Alabama! It was a great day for the Big 10!! Moving on from football, today we started diving deeper into the world of pathogens and disease. Students did a Gallery Walk where they read posters on 4 different kinds of pathogens and filled out a chart that they will eventually glue in their notebooks for a reference guide. See below for the links to these items if you were absent. We also received our new set of vocabulary words today. These words will be due on Monday, January 12th and we will have a quiz on these words as well that day. See below for the list of words. I am looking forward to the 2nd half of the school year with all of you. Keep in mind, the 2nd nine weeks is ending NEXT WEEK which means if you have any missing or make-up work you want to turn in you need to do that ASAP!! ALSO, don't forget you can fix any test or quiz for a better grade. Just fill out THIS form, correct your test or quiz, staple them together and turn it in.
Hello everyone! This week we have hit the ground running with our Earth History Unit. The past couple of days in class we have spent time taking notes on fossils, relative age, absolute age, and dating rocks and fossils. Today we started working on a stations activity where students will read about different ways to date rocks and fossils and answer some questions about each reading at the station. At their tables, students were given time to read quietly and then participate in a Round Robin style conversation about how to answer the questions. Students were directed to come up with an agreed upon consensus of what the answer to each question was and write that on their paper. All of my students did a fabulous job with that activity and I am looking forward to finishing that up tomorrow in class. Below you will find a link to the powerpoint presentation I am using for this unit as well as the fill-in-the-blank notes we have used so far.
Don't forget that your vocabulary words are due MONDAY 10/27/14 and you will be having a quiz over these words that day! Have a wonderful evening. Tomorrow is FRIDAY!! YAY! Earth History PowerPoint Part 1 - Fossils and Relative Age student notes Part 2 - Absolute Age student notes |
