Greetings everyone! I hope you all are enjoying the fall-like temperatures we have been having! Yesterday students received their last set of vocabulary words for our chemistry unit. See below for this list of words; they are due Monday in the correct format in their vocab notebooks. Today, we began discussing physical & chemical properties & change. We took some notes using a fill-in-the-blank graphic organizer and then we focused on literacy with a reading on physical properties and change. Students will be required to complete the questions for this reading for homework this evening. See below for a copy of this reading assignment as well as today's PPT. Happy Tuesday!!

After me being absent for a few days we are finally back into the swing of things! I always hate being out but sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do. Yesterday, students took their vocabulary quiz on atoms, elements, compounds, and mixtures. They also received their new set of vocabulary words for this week. See below for the words and details for the next quiz. Today, we dove right in to the Periodic Table of Elements (PTE). We took some notes, colored the PTE, and for homework students will be required to do some reading and answer questions. Need any of these resources? See below for the links. We will be working with the PTE for the rest of this week and part of next and then moving on to chemical and physical properties of matter. I am looking forward to seeing how well my students do with this subject! Stay tuned for information on an upcoming test on what we have learned so far! Have a great day!!!
Greetings Scientists!
Yesterday, students turned in their first set of vocabulary words. I was truly impressed with some of the work students put in to complete these words. You all did a great job! We also took our first vocab quiz on Monday, stay tuned for your results in class. Monday was a busy day because we also received a new set of vocabulary words for the first part of the Matter Unit. Below you will find a list of the words you will need to have completed by next week Tuesday, September 16th. Homework note: students should complete the Atom reading and questions. Need another copy? Click Here Thank you all for being such a great group of students. I am so fortunate to be working with each and every one of you every day. ~Mrs. Kievit NEW VOCAB WORDS Due 9/16/14 - quiz that day also atom molecule proton homogeneous mixture electron heterogeneous mixture neutron atomic number element atomic mass compound mixture Students received their first set of vocabulary words this week. We are currently working on the Scientific Method unit. Students have been directed to put each vocab word into the Frayer model format (word, definition, picture in color, facts/characteristics/examples, and non-examples). An example has been stapled into the cover of their vocabulary notebooks. Check out the picture below for an idea of what the Frayer Model is and how to draw it on your paper. There should be 2 words per page. NOTE: There will be a vocabulary quiz on these words on MONDAY!
